This middle school life-science class will involve a variety of hands-on projects for home and school on topics related to plants and animals. Students will learn about classifying living creatures, the scientific method, and the complexity of God's creation. The fall semester will focus on plants and the spring semester on animals. Students will complete a leaf project, plant research project, and ecology project, and learn to use a microscope, collect samples, test hypotheses, and tabulate data.

Dr. Dana Spears received her Ph.D. in Child and Family Development from the University of Georgia. After graduation, she worked as an assistant professor at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas and then returned to Georgia to work as a counselor in private practice for many years. She retired from counseling and now focuses on teaching social studies, drama, science, English and speech for home schooled students. She is the primary author ofThe Konos Way high school social studies curriculum for home schoolers and co-author of the parenting book Strong-Willed Child or Dreamer on parenting creative-sensitive children. She and her husband are active at Intown Community Church in Atlanta. Dr. Spears and her husband have three adult children who were home schooled: a daughter who graduated from Wagner College in New York City and works in wardrobe on Broadway, a daughter who graduated from the University of Georgia and is an administrator for a family support grant at UGA, and a son who is at the University of Tennessee majoring in business.

Cost: $280 fall/semester. $350 spring semester. OR (5% discount) $600 for the year. Late fee additional $5 per week. Materials/lab fee is $50.
