Teacher: Valerie Vaughan Date/Time: Tuesday - 10:45 AM to 12:15 PM Room: 260/262 Department: Language Arts Grade Level: High School (9th-12th) Maximum Enrollment: 10 Griot: The Chronicler of cultural traditions through narrative, poetry and other media. Books,
Movies, commercials, Podcasts; even TikTok videos have something in
common. They all tell a story created by a "modern-day"
griot. This course is an elective, designed to reinforce English Language
Arts concepts using the writing process and literary writing devices to enhance
self-expression through storytelling. Students learn to
conceptualize, draft, revise, edit , publish and present their original works
and essays. Every project is designed to improve writing and oral
presentation skills. They will also read and analyze other written works.
The ultimate goal of this course is to promote a learning
lifestyle, not formulaic procedures. The top priority is to help students
become comfortable expressing their thoughts with a curriculum that fosters
creativity and critical thinking.
