Spanish I introduces the basics of reading, writing, listening and speaking Spanish, as well as the culture of Spanish speaking countries. Special emphasis placed on grammar, syntax and basic vocabulary.

 

Required Materials:

·        Prentice Hall, Realidades 1 – Student text (ISBN 0131016873)

·        Prentice Hall, “Guided Practice Activities for Vocabulary and Grammar” – Student Workbook (ISBN 0131164740)

·        Three ring view-binder with 4 dividers (labeled Vocabulario, Gramática, Países, and page protectors. 

 


Description: Class meets once a week for 90 minutes.  Class sessions consist of vocabulary practice, grammar lecture, written practice of grammar points, and conversation practice. Teacher provides weekly vocabulary quizzes online, a midterm and a final exam per semester.



Method of evaluation:

Exams: 25%

Homework:  25%

Quizzes: 20%

Class participation: 15%

Cultural projects:  15%

 


Class Expectations: Students' weekly requirements are to memorize vocabulary and grammar concepts daily, complete weekly assignments and submit online.  Students' homework load is equivalent to one hour daily for 4 days. Parents are expected to check their student's assignments with the answer key before assignments are submitted. 


Tuition: $700 if paid by the beginning of the school year, or two payments of $365 due on 08/15 and 12/15, or $85.00 for 9 months (August-April) due the first week of each month. 


Supply Fee: $75 a year due at registration.


Minimum enrollment per class: 5


Drop Policy: 

By enrolling in this course, you are committing to a full year of study and full payment of tuition. Exceptions will be made as follows:

  • The family moves more than 50 miles from EAS
  • Death of a parent
  • Primary income earner for the family loses employment
In these cases, a prorated refund of tuition will be given, or the remainder of the unpaid balance will be waived.

Late Pick-Up Policy
Thank you for picking up your students on time at 4pm. After the second time, late pick-ups will be charged $1 per minute past 4pm.
