General Psychology Course

This General Psychology elective course is an engaging and comprehensive introduction to the study of human behavior and mental processes. This course is designed for students who want to explore psychology, as well as those who may be preparing to take an  AP Psychology class in the future. It provides a strong foundation in psychological concepts, theories, and research methods while emphasizing real-world applications.

In this class, students will explore the major fields of psychology, including biological bases of behavior, sensation and perception, learning, cognition, motivation, personality, psychological disorders, and social behavior. They will also examine how psychologists conduct research and analyze data to gain deeper insights into human thoughts, emotions, and actions.

Course Highlights:

Foundations of Psychology – Learn about the history, approaches, and ethical research practices in psychology.
Brain & Behavior – Discover how the brain, nervous system, and genetics influence behavior.
Thinking & Learning – Explore memory, intelligence, problem-solving, and the science behind learning.
Mental Health & Well-being – Understand psychological disorders, treatments, and stress management techniques.
Social Influences – Analyze how individuals behave in groups and how culture shapes human interactions.

Students will participate in discussions, hands-on activities, case studies, and small research projects. The course encourages critical thinking and real-world connections to psychology, making it both intellectually stimulating and personally relevant.

While this course does not lead to AP credit, it provides an excellent opportunity to build strong foundational knowledge in psychology. It also aligns with principles that reflect both scientific discovery and deeper reflections on human nature.
