This course will fulfill the requirements for Chemistry w/Lab of the Georgia Department of Education (GA DOE), course number 40.05100.

In this Chemistry course, students will study matter, its changes and properties. We will explore atoms and atomic structure, bonding, reactions. spontaneity, energy exchanges, and speed. This course will also cover solutions, acids and bases, gases, and reactions. There will be regular labs with corresponding lab reports. Laboratory time will match learning objectives through hands-on interactions with chemical changes and processes. This course will introduce students to chemical studies, foundational for higher educational chemistry studies and applicable to most every aspect of life!

Chemistry is a challenging course, but every student will be supported along the way in mastering difficult concepts and developing successful learning strategies.

It is paramount that above all else students might find joy in gaining a deeper understanding about the incredible properties and practical applications that make up our world. Weekly lectures and labs provide space for growth in knowledge, thorough engagement with course material and learning through inquisition. There will also be optional online “office hours” for class or individual questions outside of regular class meetings.

Prerequisite: It is strongly recommended that students have a solid grasp on concepts covered in Algebra 1 before beginning this class.
