Furber, April

April Furber is a Georgia certified teacher in early childhood education, middle school, and special education. She has worked with students in grades K-12, including:

  • 10 years of total teaching experience (both public and private school)
  • 5 years as Director of Special Education Resource at private school
  • 12 years of private tutoring experience (including home school environments)

April has experience tutoring in the following areas:

  • reading comprehension and decoding, including dyslexia

Hold, Darryl

Mr. Hold is a Degreed Teacher, Speed Reading Instructor and Fitness Professional and is capable of tutoring a broad range of subjects, including

Betsy has enjoyed helping students learn science for the past 15 years. She holds a doctorate in Organometallic Chemistry from the University of California, San Diego, and spent several years as a college professor before coming home to homeschool her own three children. Betsy has taught science classes to elementary, middle, and high school-level homeschoolers; she specializes in chemistry and physical sciences, and can help in other areas of science as well. She tutors from her home in Decatur. 

Rates: $50/hr for private or semi-private tutoring (two students of similar level may come together and share the cost of a session). **Class: Betsy also teaches a late elementary/middle school Chemistry and Physics course and a high school Chemistry course from her home. Classes are for 4-6 students and meet weekly for 1.5 hours, with homework assigned. Please inquire for details.



Suwoto, Julia

Ms. Suwoto is a native Chinese, and has been teaching Chinese for 12 years including 3 years at LAC. She has a MBA and a B.A. degree in English Literature. She has taught children and adults of many different ethnic heritages, and some of them went on to study Chinese in colleges in the U.S. or China. During her spare time, Ms. Julia volunteers at her church and other non-profit organizations.

Peer Tutors

Some Eastside teachers provide parents with names of peer tutors who can assist students in classes that those peers have already excelled in. Teachers vet these students according to their ability to relate well to others and explain course material clearly. For peer tutor contacts, please email individual instructors. Typical rate: $10 per 30 min. session.
